  • Jet Ski or Boat with Captain? How to Choose for a Birthday or Group Outing

Every week someone texts us the same question: “We’re 8 people, what should we book?” The honest answer depends on three things: how many of you want to drive, how long you want to be out, and how much you want to spend per person. Here’s how we break it down.

Pick jet skis if you want adrenaline

Each jet ski takes up to 2 riders, so a group of 6 means 3 jet skis and everyone gets a turn at the handlebars. It’s the better option for couples, small friend groups, and anyone who’s been wanting to try it.

Pricing is simple: $100 per hour per jet ski, with a 2-hour minimum Monday through Friday and from 1 hour on weekends. The full day (8 hours) is $600 per jet ski, which works out to $75 an hour if you want to make a whole day of it.

Keep in mind every driver needs to be 18+, and riders born on or after September 1, 1993 need a Texas boater education card to drive.

Pick the boat with captain if you want to relax

The boat fits up to 10 guests, the captain handles everything, and it comes with a cooler, music and an inflatable sofa to float on. It’s what most birthdays, bachelorette parties and family reunions end up booking.

Pricing: $250 per hour, or $200 per hour when you book 3 hours or more. Split 10 ways, a 3-hour trip is $60 per person, which is hard to beat for a private boat on Lake Travis.

Nobody needs a boater card, kids can come along, and grandparents are welcome.

    Why not both?

Some groups book the boat as home base and add one or two jet skis so people can take turns. The captain anchors in a cove, the jet skis buzz around, and everyone meets back at the boat for snacks. If this sounds like your group, text us at (737) 300-9003 and we’ll set it up together.

    A few group tips

Arrive 15 minutes early so the safety briefing doesn’t eat into your time. Have everyone sign the waiver from their phone before arriving (you get a link to share when you book). And bring cash for the park entrance ($5 per person).

Book online at https://atxwatersportsrentals.com/reservas.html or send us a WhatsApp and we’ll answer in English or Spanish.

Elige jet skis si tu grupo quiere adrenalina.

  • What to Bring for a Jet Ski Day on Lake Travis (and What to Leave at Home)

You booked your jet ski, the weather looks perfect, and now you’re wondering what to throw in the bag. Here’s the list we give every group that rents with us at Mansfield Dam Park.

    The must-haves

Photo ID for every driver. We check it at the dock, no exceptions. Anyone operating a jet ski must be 18 or older (18 to 20 ride with someone 21+).

Cash for the park entrance. Mansfield Dam Park is a Travis County park and charges $5 per person at the gate, cash only. Kids 12 and under are free. There’s no ATM inside, so stop before you arrive.

Sunscreen, applied before you get here. The water reflects the sun and you’ll be out for hours. Reapply at the dock.

Water. More than you think. A small cooler in the car is perfect for after your ride.

A towel and a change of clothes. You will get wet, and the 30-minute drive back to Austin is much nicer dry.

    Nice to have

Sunglasses with a strap (the lake has swallowed a lot of expensive sunglasses), a waterproof phone pouch for photos, water shoes for the rocky shore, and a hat for the dock while you wait for your group.

    What to leave at home

Glass containers and alcohol are not allowed in the park or on the water. Leave valuables out of sight in the car.

    What’s already included

Life jackets for everyone, a safety briefing before you ride, Bluetooth audio on every jet ski, and fuel. If you booked the boat with captain, the cooler, music and the inflatable are included too.
